Hillsborough Street Construction Activities: Weeks of Nov. 30 – Dec. 13 by NCSITE_Todd

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
During the weeks of November 30 – December 13, construction crews will be conducting the following activities:
  • Installation of sewer and water lines on the south side of Hillsborough Street starting at Horne Street and heading west to Gardner Street (2500-2600 blocks);
  • Installation of storm drainage systems on the north side of Hillsborough Street near Logan Court;
  • Installation of utility duct bank  and electrical service manholes across Hillsborough Street at Horne Street and along Horne Street;
  • Installation of curb and gutter on Enterprise Street approach to Hillsborough Street;
  • Installation of conduit systems on the north side of Hillsborough Street between Logan Court and Chamberlain Street (2300 block);
  • Work to complete sewer service on Horne Street (starting Wednesday 12/2);
  • Installation of curb and gutter, brick sidewalk pavers, and paving on the south side of Hillsborough Street  from Logan Court heading west towards Horne Street (2300-2400 blocks);
  • Installation of brick sidewalk pavers on the north side of Hillsborough Street from Enterprise Street heading east towards Maiden Lane and Pullen Road (1900-2000 blocks);
  • Paving on Oberlin Road between Hillsborough Street and Pullen Road extension; and
  • Grading and preparation of various sites for future construction activities.

Crews will be working this weekend on Saturday December 5, conducting the following activities:

  • Installation of sewer and water lines on the south side of Hillsborough Street starting at Horne Street and heading west to Gardner Street (2500-2600 blocks);
  • Work to complete sewer service on Horne Street and on Oberlin Road; and,
  • Installation of utility duct bank across Hillsborough Street at Horne Street.

TRAFFIC UPDATE
Vehicles:
 Traffic delays on Hillsborough Street are expected between Oberlin Road and Horne Street.

The Oberlin Road parking lot for Red Hot + Blue, Player’s Retreat, and Sam & Bill’s remains open for customers.

Pedestrians:  New crosswalks and campus entrances have been near Frazier’s Bistro, Horne Street, and the Alley (formerly Western Lanes).

Pedestrians and customers can still access Oberlin Road businesses during the construction process, as see the new wider sidewalks along the street on the business side.

Sidewalks on the north side of Hillsborough Street from Logan Court to Maiden Lane will be closed and pedestrian traffic will be shifted to the sidewalks on the south side of Hillsborough Street, now completed.

Please excuse our absence, but our contractors have been so busy working on Hillsborough Street, they haven’t had time to update us on their status.
 
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
During the week of November 23-27, construction crews will be conducting the following activities:
  • Installation of sewer and water lines and storm drainage systems on the south side of Hillsborough Street starting at Horne Street and heading west to Gardner Street (2500-2600 blocks);
  • Installation of curb and gutter, brick sidewalk pavers, and paving on the south side of Hillsborough Street  from Chamberlain Drive heading west towards Pogue Street (2400-2500 blocks);
  • Installation of curb and gutter and brick sidewalk pavers on the north side of Hillsborough Street from Enterprise Street heading east towards Maiden Lane and Pullen Road (1900-2000 blocks);
  • Installation of temporary street lights;
  • Installation of curb and gutter and paving on Oberlin Road between Hillsborough Street and Pullen Road extension; and
  • Grading and preparation of various sites for future construction activities.

No weekend or night work is scheduled, and construction crews will be off on Thursday to celebrate the Thansgiving holiday.

 Traffic delays on Hillsborough Street are expected between Oberlin Road and Enterprise Street.

EVENTS UPDATE
Saturday October 31: 
The Hillsborough Street Partnership and Hillsborough Street Services Corporation will be holding a celebratory lunch and workshop from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. commemorating the 10th anniversary of the “Creating a New Vision for Hillsborough Street” charrette held in 1999.

Halloween goers will be taking part in the Haunted Hillsborough Hike Saturday night.  Barricades will be placed between the sidewalks and the road.  Please be careful to watch for pedestrians and PLEASE don’t drink and drive!!!

Sunday November 1: Hillsborough Street from Blue Ridge Road to the Bell Tower will be closed Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the annual City of Oaks Marathon.

It is a little easier now for folks walking on Hillsborough Street at night to see with the installation of temporary street lights on the completed sidewalk sections near the Bell Tower.  But what will the permanent street lights and traffic signals look like?  (Click on the figures for the lighting to view the spec sheets.)

In addition, the north side of Hillsborough Street between Oberlin Road and Maiden Lane will be closed to pedestrian activity as brick pavers are installed.  All through foot traffic will be diverted to the south side of Hillsborough Street, but access to Locopops and Red Hot + Blue will be maintained.

Progress on the Hillsborough Street project continues to move along nicely.  The contractor reports that they are approximately one month ahead of schedule, estimating the project is 30% complete.

CONSTRUCTION ALERT: Temporary Detour between Brooks Ave. and Horne St., Saturday 8/29, 8:00-9:00AM by NCSITE_Todd

Progress Energy will be working near the intersection of Hillsborough and Gardner Streets this coming weekend, Saturday August 29 and Sunday August 30, to set two new transmission poles.  Construction crews will be closing Hillsborough Street between Brooks Avenue and Pogue Street for approximately 40 minutes between 8am and 9am Saturday morning so trucks can safely operate in the street.  A signed detour, shown below, will be in place for the short closure period.

Crews may restrict Hillsborough Street traffic to one lane in the area on an as-needed basis during the remainder of the weekend. Flag men will help direct traffic.

NO POWER INTERRUPTIONS ARE PLANNED TO ACCOMPANY THE WORK.

  • Construction of brick walls at the Hillsborough and Pullen intersection;
  • Installation of brick sidewalk pavers behind the Bell Tower, on Pullen Road, and on the southside on Hillsborough Street;
  • Installation of  light pole bases around the Bell Tower near the Hillsborough Street/Pullen Road intersection; and
  • Grading and preparation of various sites for future construction activities.

Construction crews will be conducting the following night-time construction activities:

  • Installation of sewer lines and service crossing Hillsborough Street from the south side to businesses over the course of the next week.

Traffic delays on Hillsborough Street are expected beginning at Oberlin Road and heading west due to intense construction activities in the area.

The new Pullen Road extension is expected to be completed this week and, at the time of its completion, Oberlin Road traffic between Pullen Road Extension and Hillsborough Street will be diverted to the new route so construction activities to install underground utilities can occur on Oberlin Road.
