Hamlett’s construction crews have started work on the island for the Hillsborough/Pullen roundabout.  During the construction, the intersection will be operating as a large single-lane roundabout.

We know many of you are unfamilar with roundabouts, so here are a few pointers as you get used to the new intersection:

  • Slow down as you approach and travel through the roundabout.
  • Yield to traffic already in the roundabout.  That means you may have to stop and wait for a gap in traffic before entering the roundabout.
  • Give large vehicles extra space as they maneuver through the intersection.
  • Signal your exit so those behind you and at upcoming entrances know when you are exiting.

We appreciate your patience throughout the construction process.  Feel free to contact us at any of the following outlets with any questions or concerns.

TRAFFIC UPDATE

Traffic delays on Oberlin Road are expected between Clark Avenue and Hillsborough Street at times due to the island construction and concrete truck traffic.

Construction on the center island for the Hillsborough Street roundabout began ahead of schedule during the week of Christmas.  Be on the look out for a project newsletter in January detailing our project progress, traffic patterns during the roundabout construction, and measures the construction crews will take to keep the sidewalks and doorways open during when construction moves to the north side of the street.

The Oberlin Road parking lot for Red Hot + Blue, Player’s Retreat, and Sam & Bill’s remains open for customers.  Oberlin Road access to BB&T remains open as well.

Oberlin Road is now open to one-way traffic northbound.

Horne Street approaching Hillsborough Street is closed due to utility construction work.

Pedestrians:  Crosswalks and campus entrances remain open  near  Horne Street and the Alley (formerly Western Lanes) in the busiest construction area.  Numerous crosswalks are in place elsewhere along the street.

Pedestrians and customers can still access Oberlin Road businesses during the construction process, as see the new wider sidewalks along the street on the business side.

Sidewalks on the north side of Hillsborough Street from Logan Court to Maiden Lane will be closed and pedestrian traffic will be shifted to the sidewalks on the south side of Hillsborough Street, now completed.
